The SmartPTT-based radio communications system provides efficient communications for dispatchers and personnel involved in technical maintenance on electricity grids:

  1. Communications for the dispatcher of the electricity grid company with the field engineer and repair and recovery teams.
  2. Communications for the dispatcher of the company with subordinate power facilities and controllers of the electric transmission grid districts.
  3. Communications for the dispatcher of the districts with subordinate facilities and those on duty at the grid stations.
  4. Communications for the district dispatcher and person on duty at the repair and production facility with field and repair personnel located on site or travelling to the place of work.
  5. Communications for individual fitters, line walkers and vehicle repair personnel with one another and the person on duty at the grid station.
  6. Organization of the transmission of alerts from unmanned substations to the district control station via a radio network.

Apart from this, the SmartPTT-based dispatcher radio network becomes the only means of efficient management of mobile teams in the following cases:

  • Emergency situations, mass power outages (for example, trouble-free radio communications during recovery operations after “freezing rain”)
  • In areas where there is no other alternative means of communication (for example, away from populated areas)

One or more repeaters can be set up in each grid district to provide communications for the dispatcher with mobile subscribers and for mobile subscribers with one another. Depending on the suggested number of subscribers and network load, the repeaters may work either in the IP Site Connect conventional work mode, or in the Linked Capacity Plus trunking mode (a mode of dynamically assigning channels on demand).

Using the corporate data transmission network the district repeaters are linked to one another and interact under the control of the SmartPTT software. The SmartPTT server installed separately in each district ensures voice and data transmission between mobile subscribers and the dispatcher and in addition carries out the following functions:

  • Call switching between subscribers of different districts;
  • Integration of the radio communications technology system with the departmental telephone system;
  • Recording conversations and logging all system events;
  • Status monitoring and remote administration of repeaters.

SmartPTT dispatch console is set up in each district and configured for the individual structure of the district, and provides communications for the dispatcher with subscribers of “their” district.  Using the console the dispatcher can connect to selected groups of subscribers or make an individual call to a selected subscriber. SmartPTT displays the location of subscribers on a map, allowing subscribers to be automatically tracked when they enter or exit the boundaries of the designated area.
