Glossary

Encrypted Calls§

Calls with useful information (payload) like voice, GPS coordinates, texts of messages etc. being encrypted.

Individual Calls§

Calls radio subscribers and dispatchers as well as those between radio subscribers.

Might be referred to as “private calls”. However, that may result in ambiguity with encrypted calls.

Individual Short Subscriber Identity (ISSI)§

Same as Radio ID. The term originates from TETRA standards. It is used in this Wiki sometimes for better differentiation of radio devices and IDs.

Local Area Calls§

In MOTOTRBO, local area call is the voice/data call that occurs within one of RF sites.

Sometimes, such calls might be referred to as “single-site calls” or “site-specific calls”.

If calls are initiated on multiple but not all sites, they are referred to as “multisite calls” or “wide are calls”.

Private Calls§

MOTOTRBO term for calls between radio subscribers and/or dispatchers. Might be ambiguous for the following reasons:

  • Some people may expect encryption enablement for such calls. This is because MOTOTRBO encryption settings are referred to as “basic/enhanced/advanced privacy”.
  • Some people may expect private calls being confidential, between two parties only. However, advanced dispatch product (like SmartPTT) are capable of managing that confidentiality, not follow it blindly.

To avoid ambiguity, the Wiki refers to such calls as individual calls mostly.

Unaddressed Calls§

In MOTOTRBO, Unaddressed Call is a group call that might be associated with more than one “regular” talkgroup.

IDs of Unaddressed Calls are group IDs that range from 16777184 to 16777199.

Unaddressed calls are MOTOTRBO equivalent of patches.
