Installing SmartPTT Express

GENERIC PROCESS NOTIFICATION

The process below is generic and covers all the possible installation options.

For your exact case, consider one of the following instructions:

• Installing server only with AD Authorization and Without PostgreSQL 
• Installing server only with Local Authorization and Without PostgreSQL 
• Installing the Configuration App Only 
• Installing Dispatcher Apps Only 

Prerequisites

• Perform the general installation prerequisites.

  General Installation Prerequisites

  • Install and configure PostgreSQL 
  • Depending on the required authorization, perform one of the following actions:
    • For AD authorization, create AD groups for the product admins 
    • For local authorization, create local user groups for the product admins 
  • Set up IP addresses and domain names for server host, configurator host, and dispatcher app hosts.
  • Install .NET Framework 4.8.1 (requires Internet access).

  • Install Visual C++ 2015 – 2022 Redistributable (requires Internet access).

    winget install -e --id Microsoft.VCRedist.2015+.x64
    

  • On the server host, install the PostgreSQL command line tools.
  • Restart the computer.

• Log on to the server host with the program installation permissions.

• Unarchive the installation executable (EXE) file to a local/network file storage.

Process

1. Start the installation executable (EXE) file.

   Language Select

   

2. In the window that appears, select the preferred language. Then click Next.

   End User License Agreement

   

3. In the window that appears, select I accept the terms in the License Agreement. Then click Next.

   Components Select

   

4. In the window that appears, select the components to be installed. Then click Next.

   Path Modification

   

5. In the window that appears, change paths the selected components. Then click Next.

   PostgreSQL Driver

   

6. In the window that appears, in the Path to command-line tools field, specify the path to the PostgreSQL command-line tools. Then click Next.

   PostgreSQL Connectivity

   

7. In the window that appears, set up the PostgreSQL connection settings:

   1. In the PostgreSQL Host field, enter the IPv4 address of the PostgreSQL host.
   2. In the Port field, enter the TCP port of the PostgreSQL host.
   3. In the Superuser field, enter the login of the database creating user.
   4. In the Password field, enter the password of that user.
   5. Click Check connection to check the credentials validity.
   6. Click Next.

8. In the window that appears, n the Database Name field, enter the required database name.

9. In the Database writer area, set up the high-privileged database user:
   1. In the Login field, enter the user name.
   2. In the Password field, enter the user password.
   3. In the Confirm Password field, enter the same password again.
10. In the Database reader area, set up the low-privileged database user:
    1. In the Login field, enter the user name.
    2. In the Password field, enter the user password.
    3. In the Confirm Password field, enter the same password again.

11. Click Next.

    Authorization Setup

    

12. In the window that appears, set up the authorization:

    AD AuthorizationLocal User and Group Authorization

    To set up authorization with Active Directory (AD) groups, perform the following actions:

    1. In the Authorization Type area, click Domain.
    2. In the Domain field, enter the name of the AD domain.
    3. From the Administrator Group list, select the AD group for the server admins.
    4. Click Next.

    To set up authorization with local groups, perform the following actions:

    1. In the Authorization Type area, click Local Groups.
    2. From the Administrator Group list, select the local user group for the server admins.
    3. Click Next.
    Configuration App Initial Settings

    

13. In the window that appears, set up the server address for (re)configuration:

    1. In the Server IP Address field, enter the server IPv4 address.
    2. In the Port field, enter the TCP port number.
    3. Click Next.
    Dispatcher App Initial Settings

    

14. In the window that appears, in the Server IP Address field, enter the server IPv4 address for Dispatcher Apps. Then click Next.

    Shortcuts

    

15. In the window that appears, set up the required shortcuts.

    • To create a shortcut for the Configuration App, select the SmartPTT Express Configurator check box.
    • To create a shortcut for the Dispatcher App, select the SmartPTT Express Client check box.
16. Click Next.
17. In the installation summary window, review the information. If valid, click Install.
18. When installation completes, click Finish to finish the installation and close the window.

Postrequisites

• Restart the computer.
• Adjust the system log size for the installed components.
• In case of cybersecurity concerns, disable PostgreSQL users with the database creation capabilities.
